España registró en 2005 la mayor subida de emisiones de CO2 de toda Europa

Las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero de los veintisiete países de la Unión Europea (UE) descendieron en 2005 un 0,7% respecto al año anterior y casi un 8% desde principios de los noventa. Según los datos que hizo públicos ayer la Comisión Europea, estos países habrían reducido sólo un 2% sus emisiones contaminantes respecto a los niveles de 1990, mientras que, al firmar el Protocolo de Kioto, se comprometieron a reducir esas emisiones un 8% en el plazo 2008-2012.
Los datos publicados ayer reflejan que la Unión, a pesar de haber convertido el cambio climático en una de sus prioridades políticas, está lejos de cumplir sus compromisos. "Está claro que muchos Estados miembros tienen que acelerar sus esfuerzos para limitar sus emisiones de forma significante para cumplir con los objetivos de Kioto", dijo ayer el responsable europeo de Medio Ambiente, Stavros Dimas.
Los cálculos de Bruselas apuntan a que España ha incrementado sus emisiones en un 53,3% desde 1990, el año que Naciones Unidas toma como referencia para aplicar el Protocolo de Kioto.
Pero el Ejecutivo comunitario no tiene en cuenta los datos que maneja el Gobierno español, según los cuales, en 2006, España redujo sus emisiones respecto al año anterior -por primera vez- aunque emitió un 48% más que en 1990. El objetivo del Gobierno es reducir las emisiones hasta el 37% y pagar la diferencia -hasta el 15% permitido a España en el acuerdo de la UE para cumplir el Protocolo de Kioto- comprando derechos de emisión por unos 3.000 millones
